This is the moment a terrifying landslide crushed three homes after torrential rain in Thailand.

Somkit Yinglek, 50 was picking vegetables in her garden when she rumbling noises coming from the riverbanks in Saraburi province on October 14.

After a few moments, she saw bamboo trees falling down and slipping into the river before hearing a scream from her neighbour asking people to flee the house.

Shocked Somkit rushed to her wooden home and found that the soil along the Pa Sak riverbank had collapsed and destroyed three houses, including hers and her son’s.

Local authorities had built a temporary residence for the eleven family members. The damage is still being assessed.

Somkit said: ‘Fortunately nobody was injured from the landslide. My family and I will have to reside in the government’s accommodation for the meantime.’

Another landslide caused by the same river had also taken down five monk’s quarters on the same day. A 75-year-old monk was injured while escaping the collapsing residence.

Monk Chainarong Intarawanno said: ‘We first heard loud noises before noticing that the wooden structure was collapsing. I remember jumping out and watching the whole property collapsing.’

Authorities believe that the landslide was caused by the sudden drop in the Pa Sak river level. The soil along the banks was soft, pulling down the structures into the river.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
