A clever monkey used power cables as a zip line to move between buildings in Costa Rica.

Footage shows the smart primate sliding down the wire while using its tail as a harness in Puntarenas on February 1.

It would reportedly climb the coconut trees surrounding the area before crossing the power lines - a safer way to travel and search for food around the touristy island.

Hotel owner Giener Hidalgo said: 'It really is something common here to see these little animals near our houses, but seeing them zipline was incredible, especially the last one, which was the sweetest.'

Giener added that the gang of monkeys roaming their property were friendly but preferred to be away from people.

He said: 'They were cautious but would accept food from us and the tourists. They were so smart about the zipline. I hope they don't get hurt or anything.'
