A huge crocodile with a motorbike tyre stuck around its neck for six years finally had the thing removed by brave locals in Palu City in Indonesia's South Sulawesi.

Previous attempts to remove the tyre, including by Australian wildlife expert Matt Wright for Discovery Channel in 2020, have all failed.

The giant reptile was finally caught by 35-year-old Tili at night near Tatura Selatan village in Palu City on Monday 7 February.

Tili told local media that several days before catching the crocodile he caught its calf. Then he set a trap for the tyre-trapped crocodile itself. The animal twice escaped from the trap before finally being captured.

Tili was assisted by local residents in pulling the animal ashore, after which he tied it up and the group sawed off the tyre.

He said he did it as he felt sorry for the croc, and that he spent around four million rupiah (approx. 280 US dollars) on dozens on chickens and pigeons used as bait during his long pursuit of the animal.

Previously, reptile expert from Panji Adventurer to Matt Wright from Australia from Discovery Chanel also tried to apply in 2020.
However, attempts to get tires on the crocodile have not been successful. The crocodile was finally caught by Tili (35), a resident from Sragen Regency, Central Java.
The crocodile wearing a tire collar that had gone viral was arrested around the Palu II Bridge, Jl I Gusti Ngurah Rai, Tatura Selatan Village, South Palu District, Palu City, Monday (7/2/2022) night.
So how did Tili catch the crocodile in the first place?
Tili said that before catching the crocodile wearing the ban, she first caught her child.
"I caught this crocodile's child there (in the middle of the river, red) using my homemade boat. I have caught this crocodile for 4 days," Tili said, quoted from TribunPalu.com, Tuesday (8/2/2022).

After catching the calf, Tili said, he then put the bait. The bait is pigeons, sometimes chickens.
"Sometimes the bait is pigeons, sometimes chickens," said Hili, clutching a detachable tire from a crocodile.
To catch it, Tili put a bait that tied it to the nearby river.
The other end of the rope looked at the large log that was around the river to make it easier for him to pull when the bait was successful. In fact, Tili's effort was successful. The crocodile wearing the ban was caught on Monday night.
"Had escaped twice from the bait, after sunset it just worked," he said
During the hopeful process, Tili was assisted by local residents. When the crocodile was pulled ashore, he swiftly tied the crocodile.
After being arrested, the residents then took the initiative to release the ban that was wrapped around their neck. They forbid by sawing.
"I really wanted to catch him for roasting. The crocodile was under ban for years," he wrote.
Tili said that she realized she caught a crocodile wearing a ban because she couldn't bear it and felt roasted.
"This is my own will, because I feel roasted and I want to be able to save this crocodile," he said.
Tili said that he used private money to catch the crocodile wearing the tire collar.
Starting from buying bait such as chickens, pigeons, and ducks to lure the crocodile.
"It costs around Rp 4 million, for about 35 chickens and pigeons," he said.
