A bizarre competition held in a mall in western China saw contestants literally do nothing for hours.

Video filmed in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province, on May 21 shows around 100 people lying on yoga mats for the "staring blankly" competition.

The rules were that competitors could not move or sleep during the four-hour timeframe.

A total of 10,000 yuan (£1,180.75) was awarded with 5,000 yuan to the winner.

If there were more than three winners, the prize money would be split equally. Finally, 21 winners split the prize.

The intention of the competition was to let people learn how to slow down in the fast pace of life.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
