A man is awake, and singing, during brain surgery in India
INDIA( Chhattisgarh) Raipur in which live operation of the patient is going on on one side and the patient is singing Ghazal (Song) on the other side. This operation done under modern technology has now come under discussion.
The patient had experienced 2 episodes of fits followed by unconsciousness. When he would regain consciousness, he had difficulty moving his right arm and leg and difficulty talking. This suggested that the tumor was affecting vital areas controlling speech and movements. dr said the patient has a Left frontal brain tumor (low-grade glioma) in his speech area.
So patient was operated on by Dr. Rahul Ahluwalia at Suyash Hospital, Raipur, Chhattisgarh by a modern technique called "awake craniotomy " where the patient remains awake during surgery without any pain and this patient was singing famous ghazals of legendary singer Ghulam Ali while his brain was gently being handled and tumor resection was done. The patient is awake and singing ensured that vital brain areas were not damaged during surgery.
