TikTok doctor leaves users stunned revealing why you should ALWAYS sleep ALONE and couples should get separate beds
An NHS surgeon and TikTok doctor has revealed why you should always sleep alone – even telling users not sleep next to their partner.
Dr Karan Rajan is a surgeon and lecturer at the University of Sunderland with 4.8 million followers, who regularly hits the headlines sharing his inside knowledge.
In a recent clip, he has stunned social media users by sharing why he recommends people always sleep alone, even if they are in a couple.
It's well-known that human bodies need sleep to recharge and the quality of sleep can severely impact us both physically and psychologically
Dr Karan begins by explaining how if your partner moves around in their sleep or snores, it will likely stop you from getting into the deepest stage of sleep known as REM (rapid eye movement).
He then reveals that if not everyone shares the same kind of sleep cycle – meaning that one partner might be chronically sleep-deprived, while the other is rested, or vice versa.
Another reason for why it might be advisable to get separate beds is because of the triggers that help people fall asleep – including body temperature.
Sleeping in a bed next to someone else increases body heat, which can actually lead you to get less rest than is needed.
In the clip, Dr Karan adds: "One of the triggers you need to be able to fall asleep, is the drop in core body temperature.
"Sharing a bed increases body heat so it'll take longer for you to fall asleep."
The viral video has been viewed 242,500 times and racked up over 25,000 likes so far, leaving users shocked at the revelation.
