The butterfly outbreak in China sees millions of butterflies emerge from their chrysalises at once and ascend in the sky.

Video filmed in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province on June 7 shows larvae transforming into butterflies and flying into the sky at Honghe Butterfly Valley.

It was the butterfly outbreak which happens once a year in Honghe Butterfly Valley. It's estimated that 150 million butterflies merged this season.

The butterfly outbreak phenomenon has been observed in two places around the world, one is in Mexico and the other one is in Honghe Butterfly Valley.

Yang Zhenwen, the curator of the Honghe Butterfly Valley Museum, told Yunnan TV: "The butterfly outbreak happens in May or June every year."
