After the deadly earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, locals in the Gyan district are returning home to search for their belongings amid the rubble and destruction.

The quake on June 21 killed more than 1,000 people. In Gyan district alone, the death toll is around 250 people with more than 400 injured.

In this clip from June 23, residents are seen searching through rubble amid the ruins of their former homes.

The first interview is with Faqir, saying that "ten members of my family died in the quake, and only one woman and one child survived." He calls on aid agencies to help him build a house and shelter.

The second interviewee is Siddiq-ur-Rehman, also a resident of Gyan district. He says his house was destroyed in the quake, but no one was killed or injured, yet many of their belongings were buried in the chaos. "We don't have shelter at the moment and we are facing homelessness," he says.
