Award winning Cape Town restaurant embroiled in LGBT sexual harassment scandal
Societi Bistro, an award winning Cape Town restaurant is facing sexual harassment allegations from staff and patrons. The restaurant has hosted international stars such Hugh Jackman, Charles Dance, Kate Moss, and Hugh Grant.
Members of Cape Town’s LGBTQI+ community marched with placards from the Cape Town Planetarium to the restaurant and picketed outside. They are calling for the restaurant’s owner, Peter Weetman, to admit to and apologise for these alleged acts of sexual harassment.
Tony McPherson, the organiser of the protest was sexually harassed at the restaurant by a patron and friend of Weetman’s.
Natalie Jardine, a former PR consultant to Societi Bistro, joined the protest and said that sex is not a KPI (key performance indicator) and staff shouldn’t be forced to provide sexual favours to the restaurant and or its patrons.
