Dozens of homes flooded after river overflows in Thailand
Dozens of homes were flooded after a river overflowed in Thailand.
More than 50 properties were submerged in muddy water as continuous rainfall caused the Nong Kradon Reservoir to swell in Nakhon Ratchasima province on July 17.
Phimai district authorities moved 200 residents to a temporary evacuation center at the village community hall.
Locals were forced to take the elders and children to a safer place as water level rose to about one metre deep.
Officials said they were closely monitoring the situation as more rain may worsen the flooding. Authorities plan to evaluate the damage once the situation returns to normal.
Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.
Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
