A flash flood swept tree branches down a canal amid heavy rain in northern Thailand.

Footage shows the surging deluge washing away a raft of wooden debris in Phetchabun province on May 21.

Narongsak Tanyapak, a local official, said the mountain runoff rushed downhill and flooded the canal. He added that no homes were damaged.

The Thai Meteorological Department forecasted that northern Thailand, including Phetchabun, would experience widespread thundershowers and isolated torrential rains.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
