A semi-permanent home in Jakarta, Indonesia collapsed on Thursday (July 28), leaving emergency crews scrambling to save victims trapped within.

The second-story building collapsed and killed a woman entombed inside, but crews managed to rescue another woman and a man from being crushed by the building.

There were also two motorbikes that were crushed by the collapse of the building. Electric poles around the building were also destroyed, resulting in a loss of electricity in the Galur area.

The construction of an old building is suspected to be the cause of the collapse of a semi-permanent house on Jalan Rawa Sawah 2, Galur, Johar Baru, Central Jakarta.

"There is iron in the building, but it is suspected that the construction is not strong, it is fragile," said Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Sudin Gulkarmat) Officer Unggul Wibowo at the site, Thursday (28/7/2022).

Unggul said, this incident is likely the second-story building to collapse is not strong. Unggul said, as a result of the incident, a woman was crushed to death by a building, while two other victims were injured.

"Three victims, one man, two women. One man was able to save himself, while one woman died," said Unggul.

Monitoring from warkotalive.com reporters at the location at around 19:00 WIB, officers from the Central Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept., Basarnas, PMI, and DKI Jakarta BPBD tried to evacuate the ruins of the building.

Until now, power cuts are still being carried out, in order to avoid an electrical short due to the collapsing building.
