A kind animal lover rescued a pair of mother dogs that gave birth inside a grave in the Philippines.

The compassionate passer-by, Jasfer Geneta, was taking a stroll in the cemetery in Caloocan City, Metro Manila when the two female strays approached him wagging their tails on August 13.

The frantic pooches then led him to a grave covered by tall grass, where he found a litter of puppies lying among the rubbish.

The crying baby dogs appeared to be helpless newborns that were still incapable of standing on their own.

Jasfer said: 'They looked so pitiful. They had to endure hunger while living for a long time inside the cemetery.'

After the encounter, the Good Samaritan said he has been dropping by to feed the mother dogs every day. He also took to social media asking if anyone is interested in adopting the hapless animals.

Thanks to Jasfer's pleas for help, officers of the BUHI Animal Welfare Society contacted him to conduct a rescue.

With their assistance, one of the dogs and her puppies were caught and taken to the animal shelter in Cavite province.

He said: 'I may not have been her owner, but I did everything I could to keep her alive and to feed her. She's going to a safer place now where she won't go hungry. I'll make sure to visit her some time.'

However, he added that the other canine is yet to be caught since it kept running away from the rescuers.
