This is the heartwarming moment a Golden Retriever and two puppies stuck in an underground pipe were released by passing workers with a pneumatic drill.

The two-year-old mother pooch named Wawa carried her newborn puppies into the drain but started wailing for help when she could not get back out.

Pet owner Supajira Meesomboon asked for help from builders working on a nearby construction so they brought over their power tools to widen the concrete structure's hole in Ratchaburi province, Thailand, on June 27.

After about an hour of the makeshift rescue operation, the mother dog and newborn pups were extracted from the manhole.

Relived Supajira said: ‘She was scared of the rain, but I didn't expect that she would take her babies to hide under there. We found her the next morning crying for help.

‘I am so thankful for the workers who went out of their way to help us. I wouldn't know what to do if they didn't help us.'

The pooch family were unhurt and taken back to their cage inside Supajira's home.
