Around 250 people were reported to have been injured in the Gotmar 'stone-pelting' fair in central India's Madhya Pradesh.

The incident happened in the Chhindwara district on August 27.

Visuals showed people engaging in stone-pelting. The festival, one of the bloodiest there can be, involves people of two villages -- Pandhurna and Sambargaon and they stand on opposite sides of river Jaam and pelt stones at a flag erected in the middle of the river. Every year, many people are left injured and this time, it is no exception.

More visuals from the fair showed the people throwing stones on the water where some others were standing. According to a report, around 250 people have been left injured in their face, head, nose and even legs. Out of these, four-five are in serious condition.

They have been referred to Nagpur for higher treatment while the others were taken to the district hospital. A situation of chaos ensued after some people reportedly from Pandhurna, cut off the flag using axes. They were attacked by people of the Sambargaon village with stones. Adding to all of it, people openly drank and gambled at the fair which gave rise to further conflict.

The administration has reportedly decided to do anything in this matter and some stone-pelters were even seen taking the injured to the hospital. Pandhurna won this year's competition.
