A large clay water jug was found floating next to a road after high floods swept it away in Thailand.

Footage shows the heavy water container bobbing on the deluge submerging the Thapra-Phrayuen road in Khon Kaen province on October 6.

It was washed away from a resident's house during a storm and ended up drifting next to the highway.

Tha-Phra Mayor Pisut Anutrangkul said: ‘This year, the floods came gradually, but they have already caused damage to over 500 houses. Therefore, it is necessary to close the road until the water dries up.'

He added that the overflow from two nearby rivers is causing the flood.

Khon Kaen District Governor Prachuab Rakpat said: 'Our main concern is if the flooding will worsen when the water from the Pong river runs off towards Khon Kaen.'

Thousands of houses and large swathes of rice fields are at risk of damage when authorities release water from the Ubolrat dam, he said.

Heavy rain has been battering large parts of Thailand for the last three months. The torrential weather was compounded by Typhoon Noru, which brought severe deluges to the northeast region causing floods and overflowing rivers.
