This is the dramatic moment police rescued a villager from his shanty home amid raging floods spawned by Typhoon Nesat in the Philippines.

Footage shows officers pulling the struggling villager to safety using ropes as muddy torrents overtook his home in Claveria town, Cagayan province, on Sunday October 16.

Nesat's onslaught came as the province was still reeling from a tropical depression that had battered it just days earlier.

Nesat, packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometres per hour, battered houses in Claveria town, Cagayan province, on October 16 after undergoing 'extreme rapid intensification,' state weather agency PAGASA said.

Known locally as 'Neneng,' it made landfall in the Philippines on October 16.

More than 7,500 families in the country's northern regions were affected by the typhoon. The national disaster council has reported no deaths, injuries, or missing persons as of October 17.

Nesat has left the Philippine monitoring area on Monday, but PAGASA warned of occasional showers due to the southwesterlies amplified by the weather system.
