A Palm Beach County Sheriff's Deputy on a motorcycle was sideswiped by a pickup truck during a Halloween charity bike ride on Saturday October 29.

The deputy was struck by a red pickup truck at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Southeast 5th Avenue in Delray Beach, Florida, just after 9am local time.

A Delray Beach police officer on the scene said he believed the deputy, who was transported from the scene by ambulance, did not receive life-threatening injuries.

The injured deputy was part of a team of dozens of deputies and police on motorcycles acting as escorts for the 10th annual Witches of Delray charity bike ride.

Three hundred elaborately-costumed witches took to the streets at 8am and followed a route that took them from City Hall, through the centre of town and on to the beachfront.

The accident occurred well ahead of the bike riding witches.
