The Long-nosed Water Dragon (Gowidon longirostris) is a very long-tailed member of the family Agamidae. It is found in semi-arid Australia, and has a wide distribution, ranging from Western Australia to western Queensland. Long-nosed Water Dragons move swiftly, running on their hind legs to escape danger. This male dragon was perched on a dead tree, watching me carefully with its baleful eye. It bobbed its head a few times – a common way of social signalling in Agamid lizards.
