A cheeky polar bear wandered up to a cabin window before chewing on a man’s canoe while he watched on inside.

Explorer Frank Wolf, 52, was on an 1100km trip through Canada with a friend when the pair stopped at the mouth of Seal River, Canada.

Tense footage shows three polar bears weighing at least 225kg(500lbs) surround the hut and climb on top of Frank’s canoe to look through the glass.

Having peered inside, one of the younger bears started to chew on the red boat multiple times seemingly ignoring Frank banging on the window trying to deter it.

Frank said: “One of the bears was particularly mischievous and I thought it was cute at first as it looked up at us through the window.

“However, when it started chewing on our canoe I became a bit annoyed as that was our crucial and only form of transportation. I didn't want a hole eaten out of it.

“Every time the bear started chewing I knocked on the window and shouted at it to stop- it would then look at me and then go right back and start chewing the canoe again.

“Though I've encountered polar bears numerous times during my travels, a bear has never chewed on my canoe before.

“They hung out for about an hour. There were deep teeth marks at both ends of the canoe.

“I ultimately scared them away by going outside and firing off a 'bear banger' that sent them back upriver.”
