Male elephants clash on road during mating season in Thailand
This is the moment a pair of aggressive male elephants clashed during mating season in Thailand.
The testosterone-addled bulls dueled in front of terrified tourists at the Khao Yai National Park in Nakhon Nayok province on November 19.
Local media reported they had locked tusks twice within 30 minutes, prompting park rangers to break up the fight.
Footage shows how the hostile pachyderms charged at each other as they tried to assert their dominance. They stopped upon hearing an officer shouting at them through a megaphone.
The pair eventually retreated into the forest while still eyeing each other warily.
Park officials said they were unsure if the two were injured and added they will be tracking the jumbos' movements to keep them from clashing again.
Male elephants or bulls periodically enter a state called ‘musth' which peaks during November and Decemeber in Thailand.
A bull in musth experiences increased testosterone production and aggressive behaviour, resulting in clashes between adult males.
