A motorcycle rider ushered away a wild elephant on a road back to the forest.

The unidentified motorist was stuck in a traffic jam after the wild animal blocked the highway in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand, on May 22.

While waiting for the park rangers to assist, the man took matters into his own hands and guided the jumbo away from the drivers and into its habitat.

Footage shows the motorcycle rider in his two-wheeler, shouting at the elephant and leading it back to the forest.

He successfully helped the animal leave the road and ease traffic back to normal, but authorities said it was dangerous.

The wildlife worker who recorded the video said: ‘We received a report about it and we tried to search for him but he already left. We warn people against doing the same, there are trained professionals to handle such situations.'

Thailand has up to 3,500 elephants in the wild. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in the country at the beginning of the 20th century.
