A World Cup volunteer has become an unlikely hit with football fans thanks to his amusing directions to the metro train in Qatar.

Footage shows the African volunteer with his large purple foam finger pointer while sitting on a raised chair with a megaphone while saying 'metro' on November 23 in Doha.

Supporters from around the world have been recording the helper while he says 'metro' in different accents. He can be repeatedly heard calling out ‘metro, metro, metro' to passing crowds.

Videos of the Fifa worker have been posted on social media, with some fans even having a go on his megaphone to call out metro themselves.

Filmer Jafar Suhaib from Qatar said: 'This World cup volunteer is doing his job in a different way. People from different countries are coming to see him and take selfies and reels with him.'

Supporter Bouazizi Hicham added: 'This is the most popular person in Qatar right now. He is famous.'
