A group of people were seen chasing away a herd of elephants from a field in northeastern India's Assam.

The incident happened in Goronga Pothar in Golaghat on December 1.

Visuals showed the group of people running towards the herd, from which one elephant seemed to retort with the crowd being scared away temporarily. However, they made their way towards the field and the group of people once again ran after them, throwing sticks and stones at the animals in the process.

Some from the group even threw firecrackers at the elephants with one of them getting close to the herd and attempting to strike one of the elephants with a stick. The sound of firecrackers seemed to scare the elephants, one of whom trumpeted after it burst.
