Location: Courtrallam falls, Thenkasi District Tamilnadu India.

As schools are closed for half yearly holidays, many families have been flocking to tourist spots in Tenkasi district, including Courtallam old main falls. Krishnan and his family were having a good time as they bathed in the waterfalls. Children were happily playing close to the front of the waterfalls when suddenly, Krishnan’s daughter Harini slipped and fell into the falls. She was swiftly carried by the flowing water downstream through a gap. As panicked screams filled the air she landed on rocks but was still carried by strong currents.

As luck would have it, a group of youths who were bathing nearby yelled to the child to grab one of the rocks and try to stay at one spot.

One among them, Vijayakumar, climbed down several rocks despite the slippery conditions and entered the water.

As Harini barely managed to hold on to a rock, he grabbed the girl’s hand in the nick of time, pulled her up and carried her on his waist.

With the help of other youths, she was brought to safety much to the relief of her family. Many praised the quick thinking and daring act of Vijayakumar.
