Bargain-chasing locals were sent into a shopping frenzy at a Japanese surplus store in Thailand.

Footage shows the excited customers pouring through the gates of the warehouse of a store selling secondhand goods imported from Japan in Narathiwat province on January 9.

Four staff had to hold the gates and keep people from entering before its opening time while a female cashier tending the cash register watched from behind her table.

The shop sells used items imported from Japan which have become popular in many Southeast Asian countries.

Shopkeeper Angsu Wamae said: ‘Our products are good quality and cheap, even though they are used. Our customers heard we were giving away special discounts that day and flocked outside our store.'

Angsu added they sell bowls, glasses, bags, umbrellas and various used items that sold for almost less than half the price of locally-made brand new goods.
