Indian Opposition Congressional party workers scuffle with cops over new report
NSUI (National Students Union of India), the student wing of Congress, held a protest in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar demanding a Joint Parliament Committee probe over the Adani row. Protesters holding placards and scaled over barricades set up by police and pushed the barricades and some protesters even burnt a suitcase with an SBI logo on it. Several protestors were detained from this protest and the NSUI leaders were dragged to the police buses and removed from the scene.
The opposition parties have sought discussion over investment by LIC, Public Sector Banks, and financial institutions "in companies losing market value, endangering the savings of crores of Indians" following a report by the US firm Hindenburg Research.
A January 24 report by Hindenburg Research alleged that the Adani Group had weak business fundamentals, and was involved in stock manipulation and accounting fraud, among others. The report triggered a sell-off of shares of Adani Group companies.
