A surveillance camera caught the moment a man attempted to throw his wife off a boat travelling through the Sunda Strait, Indonesia.

Footage released on February 24 by local police shows a man walking up to his wife, picking her up, and attempting to dump her over the side of the vessel.

Fortunately, the woman managed to cling to the side until help arrived.

Head of the Bakauheni Port Police Sector, Ridho Rafika, confirmed the incident occurred on the Shalem passenger ferry heading from Merak to Bakauheni.

The police force also said the family claimed to have informed the ship's crew that the husband suffered from a mental disorder, and that was why the incident was not reported to the police.

Local television journalist Teuku Khalidsyah sourced the CCTV footage from the local police force.

This is a CCTV recording that has been circulating on social media, showing a man attempting to throw a woman off a ferry boat sailing from Merak Port, Banten, to Bakauheni Port, Lampung.

In the video, the man suddenly lifts the woman who is walking and throws her off the boat. Fortunately, the victim's clothes got stuck in the boat's door, allowing other passengers to evacuate.

The police confirmed the incident of throwing from the ferry boat.Head of the Bakauheni Port Police Sector, Police Adjunct Commissioner Ridho Rafika said the incident happened on the Shalem passenger motorboat sailing to Bakauheni Port on Thursday morning.

According to police investigation, the perpetrator was the woman's husband. The family claimed to have informed the ship's crew that the husband suffered from a mental disorder, and that was why the incident was not reported to the police.

However, the police regretted that the ship's crew did not provide the information. The police will continue to investigate the perpetrator's identity and the truth of the family's confession.

Meanwhile, until now, the KMP Shalem or PT Surya Timur Line has not been able to be questioned about the incident.
