With its endless array of tourist attractions, Lampung Province is a must-visit destination for travelers seeking natural and religious wonders. One of the religious sites that visitors should not miss is Goa Matu, located in Pesisir Barat Regency. Here,
Goa Matu, located in Way Sindi Village, Karya Penggawa District, Pesisir Barat Regency, Lampung, is known by the community as a gathering place for creatures from the supernatural realm. Many mystical stories believed to have originated from this cave are passed down through generations. That's why many locals and tourists from outside the region visit this cave to offer prayers to the Almighty God.
Visitors can reach Goa Matu by land. From Bandar Lampung city, the travel time takes around 5 hours, while from Krui city, the capital of Pesisir Barat, it only takes less than 20 minutes. When arriving at the Goa Matu tourist area, visitors will be presented with a beautiful view. They can see the lush forest and the Indian Ocean simultaneously from atop a hill.
However, to enter the cave, visitors are required to descend the stairs accompanied by a guide or commonly known as the caretaker, named Makmur. Before entering the cave, he will perform a prayer. While waiting, visitors will be presented with an exotic view of the cave's mouth. If lucky, they may encounter several python snakes in the cave's wall holes.
As visitors begin to enter Goa Matu, they will feel a tense atmosphere. The pitch-black condition coupled with the distinctive smell of thousands, even millions of bat droppings, adds to the eerie ambiance. Inside the cave, visitors usually walk around and offer prayers to the Almighty God. The community believes that this cave is awaited by 12 supernatural kingdoms.
Still within the Goa Matu tourist area, visitors can visit beautiful cliffs with a vast view of the Indian Ocean. To reach this location, visitors only need to walk for 20 minutes from the cave's mouth. At this location, tourists can take selfies with a beautiful rocky background.
The management emphasizes that visitors who come to the Goa Matu tourist area must always prioritize safety. Additionally, the guide also asks tourists to maintain decorum and avoid immoral behavior. Goa Matu is an attractive place for those who love mystical and natural tourism.
