On Tuesday (March 7) evening, filmer Edrich Schafer captures the stunning rise of the March moon, known as the "Worm Moon" in Kruger National Park, South Africa.

I had the opportunity to film the beautiful rise of the full moon on 7 March 2023. While this moon is known as the worm moon in the northern hemisphere, down here in the southern parts of the planet we just call it the March moon. It was a beautiful, hot, and humid evening. I made my way out into a wilderness area of the Kruger National Park and found a good spot on the banks of a river to sit and wait quietly for the moon rise. The sounds of various frog species echoed into the early evening, giving it that real summer evening feel. These waits always take longer than anticipated but it’s always worth the wait when that huge dark orange ball rises over the horizon and through the beautiful large trees of our area. While filming this beautiful moment in nature, I realized sitting next to a river at dusk is not such good idea as I was eaten alive by mosquitoes, which was not so beautiful. Besides the mozzies, I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful full moon evening with all the sounds of the African wild adding to the atmosphere. I’m happy to share this experience with everyone else.
