A Thai university student was killed after crashing into a Russian tourist's motorcycle at an intersection in Thailand.

Akeamarin Ruanrenoo, 19, was riding his motorbike along the Sam Kong junction in Phuket when he collided with Russian driver Dmitry Tolstoy and his pillion passenger Aigul Sadykova on April 1.

Medics arrived to rush the injured youngster to a hospital.

Police Captain Wichit Nokkaew of the Mueang Phuket Police Station received a report at 5:43 PM and went to the crash site to investigate.

Russian tourist Tolstoy told officers he had been crossing the intersection at a green light when he was hit by Akeamarin, who he claimed was speeding.

Police Captain Wichit said: 'From the initial investigation from the scene we believed it was an accident. However, the relatives of the deceased student have asked us to investigate the crash further so we are still interviewing witnesses and the people involved.'

The student's mum later said on April 3 that her son had died from his injuries. He was buried at 4 PM today at the Wat Anuphatkritdaram temple in the Kathu district.

She also requested residents and shop owners in the area to help with the investigation by providing surveillance footage as there were no cameras at the intersection.
