A father watched the rare hybrid solar eclipse using a broken glass.

Footage shows the three-inch by two-inch material with darkened spots being lifted up so Romeo Betonio could safely observe the unusual phenomenon from outside their home in Leyte, the Philippines on April 20.

Romeo Betonio, who witnessed the event with his family, said: ‘This doesn't happen every day so I made sure to spend some time with my kids and wife to watch it.'

The hybrid solar eclipse is a rare type of solar eclipse that shifts from annular to total and back as moon's shadow moves across Earth.
