STORYLINE:
A German business leader has voiced hope for more robust investment between China and Germany.
Hermann Simon, also known as the father of the "hidden champions" theory, is leading a group of German "hidden champions" to visit China.
According to Simon's criteria, "hidden champions" are relatively small but highly successful companies with its annual turnover less than 5 billion U.S. dollars. They are usually inconspicuous and invisible to the public.
The first stop of the group of German companies is Sanhe City, which neighbors Beijing.
SOUNDBITE 1 (German): HERMANN SIMON, German management scholar
"Investment is playing an increasingly important role in Sino-German relations. Sanhe has been proved to be a very alluring city to invest in. German enterprises expressed willingness to invest in China. Such encounters give rise to new opportunities. Next, we will select the proper locations. And cities are competing to attract investors. We'd like to see the two-way Sino-German investment to be more robust."
SOUNDBITE 2 (German): Dr. ANDREAS WEIDENEDER, GM of Brau Consult BCW GmbH
"Representing German beer brewing and beverage industry, we are looking for strategic partners in China. In addition to brewing, agriculture, hospitality and catering are also potential areas for our cooperation. And we also consider establishing joint ventures with existing breweries in China."
