'Drink driver' weaves dangerously along Thai highway
This is the nail-biting moment a 'drink driver' wove dangerously along a highway in Thailand.
Driver Songsak spotted the pick-up truck moving erratically as it traversed the road in Khon Kaen province at around 12:54 pm on July 6.
Dashcam footage shows how the vehicle moved left and right across the lanes, nearly hitting other cars beside it.
Songsak can be heard honking his horn to warn the driver as he drove a safe distance behind the truck.
He said: 'I was concerned that the way he was driving behaviour could potentially result in a fatal accident. He was driving at a fast speed, so I kept honking my horn to call his attention.'
After several minutes, the truck's right side came up on the centre median while it was still speeding. It left a trail of debris in the middle of the lane before zipping away.
Songsak said: 'I don't know what happened to the driver since he sped up after the accident. I shared the footage to raise awareness and inform others about the concerning incident that occurred.'
Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
