As one of the newly emerging green professions, carbon accounting was included into China's new edition of occupational classifications in 2022.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): LIU WANG, Carbon accountant, Lianhe Taize (Shanxi) Environmental Science and Technology Development Co., Ltd.
"Carbon emissions accounting is considered a fundamental aspect of greenhouse gas management. Through carbon accounting, basic data is provided for subsequent carbon verification and trading, facilitating the implementation of various tasks related to carbon emissions management of the company."

China has maximized the functions of its market-based mechanism to spur carbon-cutting endeavors.

In July 2021, it launched a national carbon-trading market, the largest market of its kind worldwide.

Liu said this has attracted more young talents to seek new job opportunities.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): LIU WANG, Carbon accountant, Lianhe Taize (Shanxi) Environmental Science and Technology Development Co., Ltd.
"Driven by China's carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals, I think carbon accounting is a very good and promising career.
Firstly, this occupation belongs to a new sector with a relatively small number of professionals.
Secondly, there is a broad range of industries that can be involved in carbon accounting. As more industries and businesses are gradually included in emission control measures, the demand for carbon accounting professionals is expected to increase significantly.
In recent years, our company has experienced a continuous growth in business volume in the field of carbon accounting, with an annual growth rate ranging from 30% to 50%."
