Lifoat volunteers rescued two dolphins washed ashore during the low tide in Frasenburgh Beach, Scotland, on June 5.

Beachgoers found the marine animals stranded along the shore at around 6 am and called the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) and the Coastguard for help.

The rescue workers tried to refloat the dolphins but the creatures would keep heading back to the shore.

Around eight hours later, the Fraserburgh RNLI were called to transport the dolphins into deeper waters.

Footage shows the crew tying the dolphins to stretchers and releasing them in the middle of the sea.

Authorities said they monitored the coastline until 8 pm but there were no reports of the dolphins getting into difficulties.

A BDMLR spokesperson said: 'As far as we are aware everything that should be swimming is swimming, and everything that should be on dry land is on dry land.'
