A rescue operation is underway after at least 26 workers were killed by a collapsing bridge in eastern India's Mizoram state on August 23.

Around 40 workers were at the site when the under-construction railway bridge collapsed in Sairang.

Local YouTuber Lalventhanga filmed the scene where a large section of the structure had collapsed to the ground below.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) said in a statement on X that the incident occurred during work on one of the 130 bridges being built in the Bhairbi-Sairang line railway project.
