Coast guards rescued a family of seven including a six-month-old baby as Super Typhoon Saola flooded their home.

Footage shows the rescue crew assisting the distressed villagers, including the infant and a pensioner, from their battered wooden hut residence in Sablayan town, Occidental Mindoro province, on Monday morning, August 28.

The team from The Philippine Coast Guard waded through waist-deep floods and guided the family to rubber boats ferrying locals to evacuation centres.

Authorities said around 1,591 people from 11 districts in Sablayan were evacuated due to the storm, which was enhancing the southwest monsoon.

Typhoon Saola, known locally as 'Goring', intensified into a super typhoon on August 27 and weakened slightly to a typhoon a day after, state weather agency PAGASA said.

It tore through the Philippines' northern provinces over the weekend, displacing more than 2,000 people, officials said.

PAGASA said Saola was moving toward the Luzon Strait between Taiwan and the Philippine island of Luzon on Tuesday morning. It was expected to maintain its strength as it churns northwest toward Taiwan.
