Fast-handed chef uses flamethrower to grill chicken while sprinkling on water to stoke flames
A fast-handed chef torched chicken on the grill with a flamethrower while sprinkling water on the meat with his bare hands to stoke the flames.
The amazing hawker Toyoji Chikumoto owns the streetside stall Izakaya Toyo and uses the unconventional cooking method to make his famous yakitori in Osaka, Japan.
Footage shows the skilful Toyoji holding the hot device in his left hand while his right hand is busy flipping the meat and sprinkling it with water.
Toyoji did not use special gloves or equipment but instead worked bare-handed on the food.
Izakaya Toyo - which used to be an empty parking lot until it was converted into an eatery by Toyoji in 1992 - appeared in an episode of the Netflix documentary 'Street Food: Asia' in 2019.
His yakitori is a distinctive type of skewered chicken that has earned him plaudits in the region.
