The future of Future of Thailand's gaudy neon-lit cannabis shops, seen in the video, is in doubt with the new PM vowing to ban the drug outlets.

Thousands of shops selling marijuana erupted across the country following the decriminalisation of the substance in June 2022.

But Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin told Bloomberg this week that the government would 'rectify' its cannabis policy and limit the use to medical purposes within six months.

'The law will need to be rewritten,' the real estate tycoon said in an interview in New York, where he was attending the UN general assembly.

'It needs to be rectified. We can have that regulated for medical use only.'

Thavisin was asked if there will be a compromise for recreational use but he said 'no'. He claimed that problems arising from drug have been 'widespread lately'.
