An annoyed baby elephant kicked a tourist posing for pictures with him and his mother jumbo at a Thai zoo.

Footage shows the juvenile animal named Nong Chang putting his trunk around the holidaymaker Aon Lanlar like how he has been trained to do at the Khao Kaeo Zoo in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand, on October 21.

But Nong Chang seemed irritated with Aon as the man kept rubbing his trunk while smiling for the cameras, so the zoo animal put his front knee forward to nudge him in the back.

Aon felt Nong Chang's foot and fled back to his friends, although the elephant remained beside his parent and their caretaker standing two steps away.

Aon said: 'Nong Chang was very cute and hugged me, but I did not expect the slight kick.'

As of 2023, there are an estimated 3,084-3,500 wild elephants in Thailand. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in Thailand at the beginning of the 20th century. The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
