A local's leg was injured in a vicious python attack while he went to the toilet.

Dolnathee Srisodsai, 39, had been drinking with his friends when he walked over to nearby tall grass to relieve himself in Samut Prakan province, Thailand, on November 2.

But while urinating, Dolnathee saw the 13ft python emerge from a hole near a fence. He stepped back in fear, but before he could escape, the serpent lunged and wrapped around his leg, sinking its fangs into his flesh.

With the beast still latched onto him, Dolnathee hobbled over to the group and screamed for help.

His shocked friends and passers-by who heard his cries began to beat the python with sticks until it loosened its grip.

Dolnathee said: 'I was feeling good then suddenly there was a sharp pain in my leg. I shouted then looked down and saw the snake biting me.'

The group reported the snake attack to medics and wildlife officers, who arrived to find the python bludgeoned to death on the road.

Dolnathee was given first aid and taken to a hospital for his injuries.

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
