Students from several high schools joined a rally in support of Palestine on November 14 amid Israel's war with Hamas.

The students from schools in the Athlone area were seen chanting slogans and holding pro-Palestine posters.

Cape Town, South Africa, 14 November 2023: Several high schools picketed in the Cape Town area of Athlone in support of the Palestinians. High school students from various schools in the area chanted slogans and held posters in support of Palestine and condemning Israeli attacks on Gaza.

Protests in support of Palestine have been held across the city since October 7 when Hamas militants attacked Israel, resulting in retaliatory attacks by Israel. The attacks by Israel has resulted in large scale displacement of Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip. Gaza has been under a land, sea and air blockade by Israel since 2006.

On Saturday 11 November one of the largest protests in Cape Town’s history was held in support of Palestine. On Sunday 12 November clashes between police and Palestine supporters occurred at the Sea Point Promenade after Palestinian supporters grabbed the flags of those supporting Israel at a prayer meeting.
