International Quds Day protest at South Africa’s parliament

A protest was held outside South Africa’s parliament in Cape Town in solidarity with Quds Day (Jerusalem Day). The annual event is to support the struggle of the people of Palestine.

Young and old people gathered outside South Africa’s parliament with Palestinian flags and chanted anti-Israeli slogans. South Africa in 2018 downgraded its embassy in Tel Aviv in line with the resolutions taken at the ruling African National Congress’s 54 national congress in December 2017.

Aishah Cassiem a councillor for the left wing EFF (Economic Freedom Fighters) in the Cape Town City Council said her party’s position on Palestine is clear and calls for a total boycott of Israel.
