Cape Town, South Africa - 26 November 2023: Cape Town’s annual Christmas Festive Lights switch on saw Palestinian supporters bering blocked from entering the public festival. Several social media videos showed how Cape Town law enforcement officers and private security blocked people with flags from entering the public festival.

When asked about people being blocked from entering the event, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis claimed to have no knowledge of what had happened and claimed the South African Police Service (SAPS) had made a decision not top allow protesters to enter.

Protesters were eventually allowed in and made their way to Grand Parade waving Palestinian flags and chanting slogans. The City of Cape Town is under the political control of the Democratic Alliance (DA) who has come under attack for being Pro-Israeli and Pro-Zionist according to those who support the Palestinian cause.
