Chinese woman's kind gesture exploited as scooter rider seizes dropped cash unnoticed
A woman's kind gesture was exploited as a scooter rider seized her dropped cash unnoticed in northern China.
The CCTV footage was filmed in the city of Handan in Hebei Province on December 13.
Mrs Li accidentally dropped 100 yuan (£11) in cash while fumbling with her keys. Seizing the moment, a woman on an electric scooter, accompanied by a child, swiftly rode over and parked at the spot where the money fell.
Misinterpreting the situation, Mrs Li hastily intervened, cautioning, "There are no steps here; you might fall if you go down!" The rider clarified, "I'm not going down; I'm waiting for someone," discreetly picking up the money in the process.
It wasn't until Li returned to her store that she realised her loss. Upon reviewing the surveillance footage, she discovered the scooter rider intentionally obstructing the view while pocketing the 100 yuan.
Li expressed disappointment, feeling her good intentions had been betrayed.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
