On Thursday, December 7th, at 18:20, the Duluth Fire Department swiftly responded to a distress call involving a dog near the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge. The canine had escaped its leash, plunging into the water. Hindered by harsh weather conditions and limited visibility, Rescue 1 and the Assistant Chief, supported by crews from 1 Engine and 1 Tower, employed Marine-3, the department's inflatable rescue boat.

Navigating 8-foot plus waves in the ship canal, the rescue team faced considerable challenges locating the struggling dog. Collaborating with the dog's owners and on-site personnel, the firefighters managed to secure the exhausted pet. The rescue boat transported the crew and the dog to calmer waters near the South Pier Inn, where the canine was reunited with its owners.
