STORYLINE:

Wine, a signature product of Georgia, has become an increasingly popular drink choice on Chinese people's dining tables in recent years.

At 2023 Georgia-China Xinjiang Commodity Exhibition held in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia earlier this month, Georgian wine producers were eager to showcase a variety of products to impress the Chinese dealers and customers.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): SULIKO NEMSADZE, Head of the Georgian wine production company Mtevino
"A lot of people like this wine because it's very delicious. Aromas are very rich. I recommend you to taste it. You can try it."

As one of the earliest importers of Georgian wine products, Chinese businessman Zhang Xinguo has witnessed how Georgian wine developed its market share in China.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese):  ZHANG XINGUO, Manager of Xinjiang Jiuping Import and Export Co., Ltd.
"We started to import the Georgian wine via Almaty in 2013. We imported a container of it, but did not sell out from April to October of the year. The promotion was really difficult at that time because few people knew about it. After years of development, we sold more than 130 containers in 2019. Whenever there are expos and fairs to be held in China, many of the Georgian wine producers will come to participate and they greatly value the Chinese market."

According to Zhou Qian, China's ambassador to Georgia, the trade volume between China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Georgia has quadrupled and the investment volume has doubled in the past decade as Xinjiang is now serving as a comprehensive logistics hub connecting Europe and Asia.
