Russian says it fired thermobaric rockets at Ukrainian military positions
Russia has said that it has fired a salvo of 220-mm thermobaric rockets on Ukrainian military positions using a TOS-1A 'Solntsepyok'.
The footage reportedly shows the Russian TOS-1A 'Solntsepyok' manoeuvring into position before it deploys its deadly ordnance and fires it into the sky at unseen targets.
The images then cut to footage showing a number of explosions on the battlefield.
The images were obtained from the Russian Ministry of Defence on Monday, December 8, along with a statement claiming: 'Operating in the area of the Tor ledge, the crews of the TOS-1A heavy flamethrower systems of the Center group of troops inflicted fire on an enemy stronghold, as well as a concentration of personnel and lightly armoured equipment.
'Having fired a salvo of 220-mm thermobaric rockets at previously received coordinates, the crews, without wasting time, moved the combat vehicle into the stowed position and left the firing position under the cover of a fire support group.
'The commander of the fire support group with the call sign 'Adon' is quoted as saying: 'Our main task is to preserve the TOS-1A combat vehicle, provide cover for the crew and, in the event of an attack, repel it. We enter the position first and check everything, after which the combat vehicle comes in and works'.'
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, in what the Kremlin is still calling a 'special military operation.'
