People jumped from a burning building to escape a deadly fire in southern China.

The video was filmed in Xinyu City in Jiangxi Province on January 24. Several people leapt from the first-floor window onto a mat laid out below, where police officers were ready to catch them.

A fire broke out at a shop, sending thick smoke billowing and flames raging fiercely. Eyewitnesses report that the first and second floors of the building, which housed a training institute and an internet café, respectively, were engulfed in flames. In a desperate bid to escape, several individuals were seen jumping from the upper floors of the building.

Tragically, as of 8:10 pm, official sources confirmed the fire had claimed 39 lives and injured 9 others, with more still trapped in the building.
